The pedal is versatile enough to be used as a clean boost or medium overdrive. The Timmy reacts amp-like to rolling back volume and tone knobs on your guitar. WebI do plan to buy another MXR Timmy someday, however. Maybe unorthodox, but for my strat the best OD I've found is Wampler Tumnus (i.e. Klon). I don't use it as a boost exactly, but if you keep the gain at like 9-10 (maybe 8 if your pickups aren't as super quiet as mine) it has pretty awesome overdriven tube sound.
