WebGeauga County was founded in 1806 The Grand Geauga River took it name from "Sheauga", a Native American word for raccoon. Burton was the first permanent settlement in the county in 1798. We work in cooperation with the Geauga County Historical Society to maintain the mechanical antiques in the collection of the Century Village Museum, and also to present the annual Antique Power Exhibition at the museum.
